Waahli (aka Wyzah) was born in Montreal to Haitian parents. His father a musician as well, Waahli knew at an early age that music would play an intricate part of his life. Solo artist and proud member of Montreal hip hop super-group Nomadic Massive, he is a self-taught jack of many trades. Rhyming (English, French, Creole), freestyling, guitar playing – nothing is left untouched after this lyricist hits the stage.
Waahli has shared a stage with such acts as Guru, Antibalas, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Georgia Anne Muldrow, Blackalicious, K’naan and Wyclef Jean. With his high energy and ability to wrap words while spitting syllables over rhythmic beats, Waahli captivates audiences with explosive performances. His musical styles and influences range from traditional, to soul, funk and Jazz. He gravitates to the conscious sounds of Native Tongues and affiliates. The Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, J-Dilla, and KRS-One have all served as inspirations (to name a few). Beyond his musical influences, Waahli also derives inspiration from the work of black activists such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Brother Malcom X, who gave voice to many.
Waahli’s musical career took off in 2002 when he finished second in the English Rap category at Montreal’s Hip Hop 4 Ever contest and was granted the opportunity to perform in various cities across Mexico. He has also participated at the 2004 and 2006 Cuban Hip Hop Symposiums, performing with Nomadic Massive. Never working in a vacuum, Waahli has always seen his music as an extension of his community involvement. Following the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, he had the opportunity to travel there and facilitate rhyme-writing workshops with marginalized youth in Carrefour Feuilles (PAP), part of an effort to further youth development through art with the Haitian organisation Aprosifa. As Waahli’s passion has grown, his musical career has also taken him to places like France, Brazil, and French Guyana, where he has collaborated with many other artists.
Waahli launched and promoted Montreal’s highly popular hip hop revival nights, bringing together local musicians, singers and emcees to revamp their favourite hip hop classics. Using a fresh and innovative approach, from backing the artists with a live band to hyping each event with its own elaborate promo video, Waahli’s brain child quickly developed a cult following. It was even presented as part of the Montreal Jazz Festival (2012).
More recently he has been exploring his skills as a beatmaker, releasing the instrumental EP series Soapfactory Volumes 1 (2011) and 2 (2012), which he has showcased at Artbeat Montreal Revelation (2012). Mastering his craft is never on the backburner for this artist! Not only a musician, Waahli is also a proud father, a grassroots community builder/youth worker and a soap maker (WyzahMusk). He brings to the masses an eclectic blend they’ll love to experience.

Waahli (aka Wyzah) est né à Montréal de parents d’origine haïtienne. Son père étant musicien lui même, Waahli réalise à un jeune âge que la musique allait joué un rôle important dans sa vie. Artiste solo et membre fier du super groupe de Montréal Nomadic Massive, il est autodidacte et touche a tout. Rappeur (Anglais, Français Créole), Freestyling, Guitariste- sa diversité est vite remarquée lorsqu’il est sur scène.
Waahli a partagé la scène avec de grand artistes tel que Guru, Antibalas, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Georgia Anne Muldrow, Blackalicious, K’naan and Wyclef Jean. C’est avec son habileté de mélanger des rimes multi syllabes sur rythmes que Waahli captives son audience avec ses performances explosive. Son style musical et ses influences s’étalent de musique traditionnelle, soul funk et jazz. Il gravite surtout sur les sonorités du rap conscient du Native Tongues, en partant du The Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, J-Dilla, and KRS-One, tous ont servis d’inspirations. Au delà de ces influences musicales, Waahli puise son inspiration des travaux de plusieurs activistes noires tel que Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Brother Malcom X qui ont su donner une voix aux opprimées.
La carrière musicale de Waahli prend son envol en 2002, quand il termine, 2iem dans la catégorie de rap Anglophone lors du concours de Hip Hop 4 ever a Montréal, cette position sur le podium lui a donné l’opportunité de voyager et de performer dans plusieurs villes en Mexique. En 2004 et 2006 Waahli a aussi performer et participer au Symposium de Hiphop a cuba avec Nomadic Massive. Jamais mis au repos, Waahli à toujours considère sa musique comme une extension de son implication communautaire. Apres le séisme en Haïti en 2010, il a eu l’opportunité d’y voyager et d’offrir des ateliers d’écriture de rimes auprès de jeunes marginaliser de Carrefour Feuilles a Port au Prince, ce voyage faisait parti d’un effort pour inspirer l’avancement des jeunes a travers les arts avec L’organisme Aprosifa. Avec une passion grandissante, la carrière musicale de Waahli lui a aussi permis de se présenter en France, Brazil et La Guyane française, ou il a peut collaborer avec plusieurs artistes.
Waahli est le promoteur des soirées populaires 90’s Hiphop revival, rassemblant plusieurs musiciens (nnes), chanteurs (ses), et emcee locaux, afin de recréer les classiques favoris de la musique hiphop des années 90’s. En utilisant une approche fraiche et innovatrice, Il encadre les artistes avec des musiciens live, en stimulant chaque événement avec des vidéos promo. Cet avec sa créativité stimulante que des fans dévouer lui restent fidèles au rendez-vous. La soirée Hip Hop revival a été présente dans le cadre du festival de jazz de Montreal (2012)
Récemment Waahli explore ses talents en tant que beat maker, Il a sorti une série de EP de musique instrumental, intitulée Soapfactory vol 1(2011) et vol 2(2012), qui ont été présente lors de la soirée révélation de Artbeat Montreal (2012). Maitriser son art n’a jamais été mis au repos, non seulement musicien mais un père fière, intervenant dans le secteur communautaire et fabricant de savons (Wyzah Musk). Il apporte a la masse un mélange éclectique que tous vont aimez expérimenter.
